Report Vidhi Kiran 2017 - 18

For many celebrated years the students of G. J. Advani Law College have gained experience and exposure by representing in various competitions at State, National and International level. These escapades inspired us to host our first Inter Collegiate Law Fest ‘VIDHI KIRAN’, in the year 2010-11. Thus it gave us immense pleasure in announcing this year our 8th National Level Law Fest - ‘Vidhi - Kiran, 2017-18’ on 24th & 25th February, 2018. This year the Fest was collaborated with the Celebration of 40 years of College Establishment.

Participants of various Law Colleges across the country participated in the events of the law fest. The fest lived up to its expectation with the events like:-

  • 1. Parliamentary Debate
  • 2. Letter to Chief Justice
  • 3. Late Dr. L. H. Hiranandani Memorial Extempore Moot Court Competition
  • 4. Late Barrister H.G. Advani Memorial Moot Court Competition

Day 1:- Inauguration

The event was inaugurated on 24th February, 2018 by Hon’ble Smt. Justice B. H. Dangre, Judge, Bombay High Court as the Chief Guest of the programme, Shri M. A. Sayeed, Member, Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission as the Guest of Honour. The Programme was presided over by Mr. Anil Harish, Trustee and President of H. S. N. C. Board. Mr. Kishu Mansukhani, Trustee & Past President, H. S. N. C. Board graced the occasion with his embellishing presence. The Guests and other dignitaries lighted the lamp thereby raising the curtain of inauguration.

The College started the function with a merriment with a presentation which showed the glimpses of all the endeavours the College has done in 40 years, the journey which had started in 1997 till date. Principal Dr. Kavita Lalchandani proposed the welcome speech and also gave a brief history of the College.

At the inaugural function the College launched the College App and released the Newsletter of the College by the hands of distinguished dignitaries.

After the Inaugural Function the College conducted the Preliminary rounds of Parliamentary Debate and Moot Court Competition. The College also conducted the Letter to the Chief Justice event in the College Classroom. Eminent lawyers of Bombay High Court, media person, political leaders and academicians were invited to judge various Competitions.

1) Parliamentary Debate Competition

The topic for the preliminary round was “The House proposes the Protection of Rights of Muslim Women Bill, 2017”. The judges of the preliminary rounds were:

  • 1) Ms. Shalak Gujar, Advocate, Bombay High Court
  • 2) Ms. Priyanka Suryanshi, Film maker and Director
  • 3) Mr. Abhishek Sawant, President, Maharashtra Youth Congress
  • 4) Ms. Madhvi Katkade, Advocate, Bombay High Court

2) Letter to Chief Justice Competition

In this unique event 12 teams from various Law Colleges participated. Mr. Joel Carlos, Advocate, Bombay High Court consented to be the judge for this event.

3) Moot Court Competition

Preliminary Round

The event was at conducted at 11.30 am. The judges for the preliminary round were:

  • 1) Mr. Joel Carlos, Advocate, Bombay High Court
  • 2) Ms. Shubra Swami, Advocate, Bombay High Court
  • 3) Ms. Aditi Rungta, Advocate, Bombay High Court
  • 4) Mr. Rahul Tanwani, Advocate, Bombay High Court

Semi – Final Round

The semi – final round was conducted at 03.30 pm. 4 teams were qualified as per merit basis for the next round. The judges for the semi – final round were:

  • 1) Mr. Milind More, Advocate, Bombay High Court
  • 2) Mr. R. M. Vasudeo, Advocate, Bombay High Court
  • 3) Dr. Anita Marwah, Legal Head (Marketing), Western Zone, Hindustan Petroleum
  • 4) Mr. Sanjeev Kadam, Advocate, Bombay High Court
  • 5) Javeed Hussein, Advocate, Bombay High Court

Day 2:

Late Dr. L. H. Hiranandani Memorial Extempore Moot Court Competition:

The event was conducted at 09.30 am in various College classrooms. The Judges for this event were:

  • 1) Mr. Gul Madnani, Advocate, Bombay High Court
  • 2) Mr. Raghav Mehrotra, Advocate, Bombay High Court
  • 3) Ms. Nazakat Lal, Advocate & Solicitor
  • 4) Ms. Namita Shetty, Associate, Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas

2) Final Round of Parliamentary Debate:

The College conducted the Final Round of Parliamentary Debate at 11.00 a.m. Two teams got qualified as per merit basis for final round. The topic for the Final Round was “The House proposes for ‘The University of Sports Bill, 2017”.

The Final Round of Parliamentary Debate Competition was judged by Dr. Rajeshri Varhadi, Associate Professor, Dept. of Law, University of Mumbai. At the end Dr. Rajeshri Varhadi suggested to the College to send a description of the said bill to the Parliament and State Legislature.

3) Final Round of Late Barrister H. G. Advani Memorial Moot Court Competition:

The Final Round of H. G. Advani Memorial Moot Court Competition was conducted at 03.00 pm in Meera Watumal Auditorium. The Competition was judged by Hon’ble Mr. Justice K. R. Shriram, Judge, Bombay High Court.

Valedictory Function:

The last event of the National Level Law Fest Vidhi – Kiran was the Valedictory Function and Prize Distribution. The function started at 05.00 pm in Meera Watumal Auditorium. The Guest of the Valedictory function, was Hon’ble Mr. Justice K. R. Shriram, Judge, Bombay High Court. Principal Dr. Kavita Lalchandani felicitated the guest with a bouquet of flowers and a memento. She also congratulated all the participants who had participated in the fest.

In the Prize Distribution Ceremony winners and runners were awarded trophy and certificates. Participants certificate were also distributed to the participants who had participated in various competition. Volunteers certificate were also distributed to the students of the college who were the part of organizing committee of the Law Fest.

The function ended with vote of thanks.
