Report Vidhi Kiran 2016 - 17

For many celebrated years the students of G. J. Advani Law College have gained experience and exposure by representing in various competitions at State, National and International level. These escapades inspired us to host our first Inter Collegiate Law Fest ‘VIDHI KIRAN’, in the year 2010-11. Thus it gave us immense pleasure in announcing this year ourNational Level Law Fest - ‘Vidhi - Kiran, 2016-17’ on 11th & 12th February, 2017.Participants of various Law Colleges across the country participated in the events of the law fest. The fest lived up to its expectation with the events like:-

  • 1. Parliamentary Debate
  • 2. Letter to Chief Justice
  • 3. Late Dr. L. H. Hiranandani Memorial Extempore Moot Court Competition
  • 4. Late Barrister H.G. Advani Memorial Moot Court Competition

Day 1:- Inauguration

The event was inaugurated on 11th February, 2017 by Shri arvind Sawant and Dr. Poornima Advani, Advocate, Supreme Court of India. The Guests and other dignitaries lighted the lamp thereby raising the curtain of inauguration. Dr. Kavita Lalchandani proposed the welcome speech.

After the Inaugural Function the College conducted the Preliminary rounds of Parliamentary Debate, Moot Court Competition the Letter to the Chief Justice event. Eminent lawyers of Bombay High Court and Media personalities were invited to judge various Competitions.

1) Parliamentary Debate Competition

The topic for the preliminary round was "The House proposes The Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Bill, 2016".

2) Letter to Chief Justice Competition

In this unique event 10 teams from various Law Colleges participated.

3) Moot Court Competition

Preliminary Round

The event was at conducted at 11.00 am. The judges for the preliminary round were:

  • 1) Mr. Pralhad Paranjpaye, Advocate, Bombay High Court
  • 2) Mr. Joel Carlos, Advocate, Bombay High Court
  • 3) Ms. Vrushali Maindad, Advocate, Bombay High Court
  • 4) Ms. Kim Shyam, Advocate, Bombay High Court

Semi – Final Round

The semi – final round was conducted at 02.30 pm. 4 teams were qualified as per merit basis for the next round. The judges for the semi – final round were:

  • 1)Mrs. Uma Kshirsagar – Wagle, Vice – President, Advocate Association of Western India
  • 2) Mr. Jernold Xavier, Deputy Legal Advisor, MCGM, Mumbai
  • 3) Mr. S. G. Deshmukh, Advocate, Bombay High Court
  • 4) Mr. O. P. Dubey, Advocate, Bombay High Court

Day 2:

Late Dr. L. H. Hiranandani Memorial Extempore Moot Court Competition:

The event was conducted at 09.30 am in various College classrooms. The Judges for this event were:

  • 1) Shri R. P. Pande, Additional Chief Judge, Small Causes Court, Mumbai
  • 2) Shri B. M. Patil, Judge, Small Causes Court, Mumbai
  • 3) Shri. K. P. Kshirsagar, Judge, Small Causes Court, Mumbai
  • 4) Shri L. D. Gaikwad, Judge, Small Causes Court, Mumbai

2) Final Round of Parliamentary Debate:

The College conducted the Final Round of Parliamentary Debate at 11.00 a.m. Two teams got qualified as per merit basis for final round. The topic for the Final Round was “The House proposes for ‘The Surrogacy (Regulation) Bill, 2016”.

3) Final Round of Late Barrister H. G. Advani Memorial Moot Court Competition:

The Final Round of H. G. Advani Memorial Moot Court Competition was conducted at 03.30 pm in Meera Watumal Auditorium. The Competition was judged by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Prakash Naik, Judge, Bombay High Court and Hon’ble Mr. Justice M. S. Karnik, Judge, Bombay High Court.

The function ended with vote of thanks expressed by Dr. Santhi Dasari.
